New Japanese smartphone will have radiation detector
Talk about a "smart" phone—Japan's latest mobile phone sensation also happens to be a radiation detector.
The Pantone 5 107SH is the world's first mobile phone with a built-in radiation sensor, merging phone technology with a pocket Geiger counter, the company says.
Softbank spokeswoman Natsuko Kameda says the company's CEO decided to launch the phone after customers sent messages via Twitter asking him to develop the handy product in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Many of the messages, says Kameda, were from mothers with young children.
"This device will allow people to measure radiation everyday, wherever they go. People always have their mobile phones in their pocket," Kameda said. "If you have this radiation reading device in the cell phone, then they can check radiation at any time and it should help lower anxiety."
On first blush, the phone looks so ordinary that it's impossible to tell there's a radiation meter within. Softbank said the meter is small so it doesn't enlarge the device. For that reason, the radiation readings are not as accurate as larger, medical radiation readers and dosimeters. But tests so far show its mobile phone radiation reader rivals current consumer brands on the market, Softbank said.
The phone also allows the user to compare radiation readings with radiation maps available on the web.
Japan has seen a skyrocketing demand for dosimeters and radiation monitors since the Fukushima disaster. Citizens fearful of radiation spreading through the food chain and the air have been buying meters.
Softbank says the phone will be available in mid-June.

Ashley Holton Accused Of Masturbating On Florida Highway
Drivers pulled illegal U-turns just to catch a glimpse of Ashley Holton, witnesses said.
The 35-year-old woman was arrested on May 26 for masturbating on Highway 484 in Ocala, Fla.
A witness told authorities that Holton had slowed traffic for more than 30 minutes before deputies arrived, the report said. The witness also said that honking car horns only seemed to encourage her.
When a Marion County Sheriff's Deputy approached her, Holton pulled up her shirt and bra, "exposing her breasts and bra," according to the report.
Holton was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail. When an officer attempted to put pants on her, the report said Holton kicked and bit her. Holton described her chomping as "a love tap," the report stated.
Holton's alleged antics didn't stop once she had entered the jail, where she "continued to resist the officers by spreading her legs, exposing her vagina and telling the officers to kiss her there and refusing verbal commands to cooperate," according to the report.
Holton, who the report said may have been under the influence of alcohol, was charged with exposure of sexual organs, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct. Source: HuffPost
Alexander Kinyua Ate Kujoe Agyei-Kodie's Brain, Heart In Maryland, Cops Say
In yet another horrifying incident of human flesh-eating this week, a student in Maryland allegedly admitted to devouring his roommate's brain and heart.
Alexander Kinyua, a 21-year-old Morgan State University student, admitted to murdering his roommate Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, who was reported missing last Friday, cops told the Baltimore Sun.
Kinyua's father called police late Tuesday night when Kinyua's brother reportedly found human remains -- a head and two hands -- in a metal tin in the basement. The brother and father left the room for a short time, but when they came back, the body parts had been moved and Kinyua was washing out the tin, the paper reported.
Officers searched the house and arrested Kinyua. The man allegedly confessed a shocking revelation: not only had he killed Agyei-Kodie by cutting him up with a knife and then dismembered him, he ingested parts of the victim's brain and all of his heart. He then allegedly dropped most of the remains in a Dumpster behind a church in Joppatowne.
It's yet unclear what Kinyua's motive may have been, but he was charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday. In another incident on May 20, he was charged with first-degree assault when he allegedly beat a fellow student randomly with a baseball bat and then fled into the woods.
The gruesome case comes on the heels of a similar attack in Miami on Saturday, in which Rudy Eugene, 31, was killed by cops while in the process of chewing off most of a homeless man's face.
Ronald Poppo, 65, is alive, but the bizarre flesh-eating attack left doctors with a literal puzzle in how to put his face back together. Source: HuffPost
Sophie Dahl For YSL Opium Makes ASA 'Top 10 Most Complained About Ads'
We like to joke that the U.K.'s Advertising Standards Agency is an old-fashioned complaint department, acting as a sympathetic ear to a small handful of pearl-clutching Brits.
But it turns out the agency, which specializes in banning (potentially) offensive ads, has fielded about 431,100 complaints in its 50-year history -- that's a lot of pearl-clutching. So which fashion ad has ignited the most controversy over the years?
Look no further than the ASA's newly-released annual report, in which the agency happily reports its "top ten most complained about ads of all time." There, nestled among the scaremongering PSAs and violent car adverts, is Sophie Dahl's famous ad for Yves Saint Laurent Opium perfume, which made a splash back in 2000.
The controversial YSL spot, which features Dahl lying on her back completely naked, received 948 complaints, making it the eighth most-complained-about. According to the ASA, "We agreed with public complaints that a poster ad for Opium perfume featuring a naked Sophie Dahl was sexually suggestive and, in an untargeted medium, likely to cause serious or widespread offence."
So there you have it. No bum-baring, railroad track-sitting, rape-promoting, threesome-having ads were as offensive to Brits as Dahl's naked bod.
Refresh your memory and take a look below -- do you think Dahl's 2000 photo for YSL Opium was worthy of the outrage? Source: Huffpost
Couple who attacked real estate agent nabbed
KUALA LUMPUR - Two suspects who posed as prospective clients to lure a real estate agent into a condominium unit in Mont Kiara where she was later sexually assaulted have been detained.
The duo turned out to be husband and wife. Both the 33-year-olds were arrested at 11pm in Petaling Jaya, said City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah.

In the May 11 crime, the woman suspect contacted the victim and expressed interest in viewing a condominium unit in Mont Kiara.
They met in the evening at the condominium, where the suspect turned up with her husband.
Once they entered the empty condominium unit, it was believed that the man dragged the victim into a room while his female accomplice waited in the living room.
The 34-year-old victim claimed she was stripped naked and tied up before being molested and assaulted.

Penang extends ban on polystyrene utensils and food packaging
The state government's ban on polystyrene utensils and food packaging will be extended to all food outlets and restaurants, supermarkets and shopping malls, as well as all hawkers stalls, including those in night markets, effective Friday.
Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) president Maimunah Mohd Sharif (pic) said the ban, implemented in 2010, previously covered only council-run hawker centres and state-organised events.
She said food operators in the state would be given a three-month grace period until August to switch to biodegradable utensils and cardboard lunchboxes.
"Council officers on both the island and mainland will then closely monitor these premises between September and November, and issue warning notices to errant operators.
"Enforcement will begin in December, and hopefully by January 2013, none of the public food premises will use polystyrene plates, cups and food packaging," she said after chairing a full council meeting at the MPSP headquarters here.
She said the move was in line with the state's Cleaner, Greener, Safer and Healthier Penang policy.
Maimunah said those who ignored the ban could be slapped with a RM250 compound and risked not having their business licences renewed. Source: Asiaone
Missing baby girl found dead
BATU PAHAT - A four-month-old infant who went missing after her babysitter was attacked by three would-be rapists has been found dead.
Her body was discovered by joggers at 7pm yesterday at Tasik Y, just about 400m from where she was last placed inside a Proton Wira.
The baby, Lim Xiu Yao, was initially left alone in the Proton Wira at about 4.30am on Wednesday at Tasik Y when her babysitter was putting up a notice for babysitting jobs on a lamppost just 5m away.
Suddenly, three men appeared and grabbed the babysitter, who is a 42-year-old single mother, district police chief Asst Comm Din Ahmad said.
He said the culprits then pulled her into their car and drove off to the Batu Pahat stadium about 1km away from the scene.
She managed to escape when the car stopped at the stadium. While she tried to run away, she slipped and fell unconscious.
Passers-by found the babysitter at about 7am, ACP Din said.
Her Proton Wira was found at the same spot during a search for the baby shortly after the babysitter regained consciousness.
"However, the baby was not inside the vehicle," he said.
Less than 48 hours later, police were notified that joggers found the baby's body near some bushes. The infant girl had bruises on her head.
The babysitter, who suffered a broken leg, did not lose her belongings but police believe the men had attempted to rape her.
Xiu Yao's father, Lim Aik Zheng, said he and his wife Tan Hui Kheng last saw their baby on Sunday night when they took her to the babysitter.
Lim added that his first thought when they heard a baby had been found dead was that it "must not be my baby girl".
"It is really painful to know that someone could hurt an innocent baby in this manner. Their actions are worse than animals," he said at the Batu Pahat Hospital mortuary.
"My only hope is that the murderers responsible for this are caught."
The couple has a four-year-old daughter.
Tan said her baby had just turned four months on Tuesday, adding that Xiu Yao was an infant who was "very aware of her surroundings".
"She loved to smile. She always wanted to sit up and watch TV and was a very active baby," she said. Source: Asiaone
Tori Spelling Talks Surprise Pregnancy, Rocks Monokini
Hey there, hot mama!
Tori Spelling is pregnant with her fourth child and she isn't shy about showing off her growing baby bump. The actress and reality star was spotted rocking a sexy black monokini in LA with her husband, Dean McDermott, and youngest child, Hattie, 7 months, over the holiday weekend.
Spelling announced her pregnancy in March, surprising everyone -- including herself -- with news that she was expecting again so soon after giving birth in October.
"Dean, Liam, Stella, Hattie, and I are beyond thrilled to announce that another little McDermott is on the way! We feel truly blessed that another angel has found us," she wrote on her personal website, announcing her baby news.
Spelling told "Access Hollywood" that the news she was expecting came as a shock, and she only found out she was pregnant again after going to the emergency room to be treated for a migraine. The nurses requested she take a pregnancy test before being treated, and that's when both she and McDermott found out they were adding another little one to their family.
“Dean and I kind of sat there in shock for a while and then we said, ‘Well, we wanted four… This is when our miracle wanted to come… so we’ll take it,’” Spelling told "Access Hollywood." Source: HuffPost

Torture By Sesame Street At Guantanamo Bay: Al Jazeera Reports
In 2008, reports surfaced that detainees at Guantanamo Bay had been tortured by songs such as Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and Drowning Pool's "Bodies."
Now, a new documentary from Al Jazeera shows that detainees may also have been subjected to musical torture of a softer variety.
According to the report, prisoners at the U.S. detention camp at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base were forced to wear headphones blasting music from Sesame Street on repeat for hours or days on end.
Christopher Cerf, the award-winning composer of Sesame Street, was stunned to learn how his music was being exploited.
"My first reaction was this just can't possibly be true," he told Al Jazeera. "...Of course I didn't really like the idea that I was helping break down prisoners, but it was much worse when I heard later that they were actually using the music in Guantanamo to actually do deep, long-term interrogations and obviously to inflict enough pain on prisoners so they would talk."
This isn't the first time that music from Sesame Street has been used to break the will of prisoners. In 2003, the U.S. reportedly used the soundtrack to soften up Iraqi POWs.

Ronald Poppo Identified As Victim Of Rudy Eugene's Naked Cannibal Attack
Police sources have identified the homeless victim in a horrific, bloody assault in which a naked North Miami Beach man chewed off a large portion of another's man's face, as first reported by the Miami Herald and CBS Miami.
Ronald Poppo, 65, is in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, just blocks from where he was attacked by 31-year-old Rudy Eugene in broad daylight Saturday on the Downtown off-ramp of Miami's busy MacArthur Causeway.
According to CBS, Poppo's arrest records -- mostly for the sort of petty crime common among the homeless -- show he has lived in New York City and New Orleans but suggest he has spent at least a good deal of his time in Miami since 1978. He is not found in Miami-Dade court records after a 2006 trespassing charge.
Strangely, Saturday's savage attack is apparently not the first time Poppo has been seriously injured Downtown. The Miami New Times reports that he was shot in Miami's Bayfront Park by an unidentified person in 1976, spending five days at Jackson. His given address at the time was a local Salvation Army.
Gruesome photos circulating the web suggest that if Poppo survives Saturday's assault, he may do so without much of his face. Hospital employees have so far not been able to contact any of Poppo's family, according to CBS.
"It was not only grotesque, it was just very sad, the amount of blood," Sgt. Javier Ortiz, vice president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, told the Associated Press. "It was very sad to see what happened to this gentleman that had his face eaten."
Miami Police have so far disclosed few details about the incident, in which Eugene was shot dead by a police officer. But an eyewitness who was riding his bike nearby told WSVN he flagged down a police officer after coming across Eugene, stark naked, chewing off Poppo's face.
Surveillance video shows the attack went on for around 18 minutes before help arrived.
"The guy was, like, tearing him to pieces with his mouth, so I told him, 'Get off!'" said Larry Vega. "The guy just kept eating the other guy away, like, ripping his skin."
But Vega said when the police officer yelled at Eugene to back away, the naked man merely raised his head "with pieces of flesh in his mouth," growled, and began chewing again. The officer then shot Eugene once, and when Eugene continued to attack Poppo's face, shot him multiple times until he was dead.
Investigators suspect that Eugene may have been suffering from a drug-induced psychosis, possibly prompted by an amphetamine cocktail called "bath salts."
Cassandra Metayer, who went to middle and high school with Eugene and whose cousin was once married to him, said the attack wasn't consistent with his personality.
“This type of behavior is very unexpected,” she told the Herald. “He was a good person, a true friend. He was a nice, outgoing ready-to-help-anybody kind of guy.. I’m not just saying that; he really was that person." Source: HuffPost

'Build and Battle,' multiplayer action shine in 'Starhawk'
Using a new "Build and Battle" game mechanic, "Starhawk" offers more than your typical third-person shooter, tapping ino the player's strategic thinking while creating an enjoyable ride.
Lightbox Interactive founder Dylan Jobe wanted to take one of their old titles, "Warhawk," and make it into something more enjoyable and more complete. "Warhawk," released in 2007, was widely praised for its multiplayer action, but it had no single-player campaign.
Jobe and his team took the best ideas from "Warhawk," combined them with a new setting and single-player campaign, then added his a new mechanic that effectively creates what can be considered a new way to think about shooters.
"Build and Battle" allows players to call down hardware from a ship circling high above the planet. When I say hardware, I don't mean a weapons cache full of ammo and guns. I mean large, physical structures and buildings that allow players to defend, attack and punish the enemy.
Walls with turrets on top, garages with jet cycles inside, buggies, tanks and tall sniper towers complete with rifles -- all are at the players' command. These items and many more can be called down and placed on the battlefield for maximum damage or protection.
Ground and air vehicles can also be called down and used. Jet bikes and Razorbacks (three-player combat buggies) handle a lot of the ground transportation. Ox Tanks can bring the pain with artillery shells and cannons. (As their name implies, they can take a lot of punishment but are slow to move).
If you are looking for more speed and maneuverability, the Hawk is a transformer-like vehicle that switches from armored robot to nimble aircraft quickly. On the ground, a "mech stomp" wipes out scores of troops, while in the air, the jet has a range of specialized missiles and bombs at its disposal.
Each one of these vehicles can be spawned from a garage summoned with the "Battle and Build" mechanic. As with the other buildings, planning must be utilized to determine prime placement as well as how each garage can be defended.
The "Build and Battle" concept works seamlessley within combat and adds a strategic element to each battle. No longer do players have to think only about conserving ammunition. Now, they need create the environment around themselves while taking on waves of enemies.
Do you use walls to block routes into your area? Or do you arrange them to funnel the enemy into a gauntlet of beam turrets? It is this flexibility of gameplay that makes "Starhawk" enjoyable and interesting.
Plus, if a particularly large group of scabs (the enemy grunts) are headed your way, you can always just drop a building on them. Each structure costs "rift energy," a universal source of power harvested from different planets, much like oil on Earth.
Indeed, the single-player campaign has a Wild West feel and motif that could remind gamers of the great Oil Rush in the United States. Rifters want to capture the rift energy to sell it, while Outcasts believe the rift energy to be their lifeblood and want to destroy all who would take it. Emmitt Graves, the main character in the campaign, goes into the disputed areas to reclaim the rift from the Outcasts.
The storyline is told through cinematic videos rather than actual gameplay and merely acts as rather weak glue between the combat set pieces. Despite trying to inject some connection between Emmitt and the leader of the Outcasts, characters in the story come across as emotionless and uncaring about anything other than getting the job done.
But it's multiplayer mode where the game really shines. Up to 32 players can battle in four different scenarios and five different environments across two maps. More maps are planned as downloadable content (DLC), which Jobe says will be free to all.
The "Build and Battle" mechanic is at its best in the Capture The Flag and Zones modes. Teammates work together to build walls, turrets and repair arms to defend their areas while others take vehicles out to seek and destroy the opposing side.
Coordination is key and many battles have been won due to the combined efforts of teammates defending or attacking en masse. The more players per side, the more action and organized chaos there is across the battlefield. It truly is some of the best and most enjoyable gameplay I've experienced on the PlayStation 3.
Overall, the combat in "Starhawk" is refreshing, thoughtful and very well done. The environments are as beautiful as the "Build and Battle" mechanic is unique. The breadth of weapons, vehicles and buildings make each playthrough different, and the multiplayer highlights the best of all that is available.
While the campaign story is disappointing, "Starhawk" ends up being a game that shines in spite of its weak characters. In some ways, the "Build and Battle" system is the true star of the action, and that's just fine for gamers who enjoy thinking their way through a battle as much, if not more, than shooting their way through one.
"Starhawk" is available now worldwide exclusively for the PlayStation 3. It is rated T for Teens due to blood, language, and violence. This review was done with a provided copy for the PlayStation 3 and multiplayer action done on public servers. Source: CNN

Jessica Simpson is "so excited" about becoming a Weight Watchers ambassador.
The 31-year-old 'Fashion Star' mentor confirmed that she had signed a $4million deal with the diet plan brand on twitter yesterday (30.05.12).
She wrote: "So excited to be part of the Weight Watchers family."
Jessica gave birth to her first child with fiancé Eric Johnson, 32, last month - a daughter named Maxwell Drew.
She wrote on her Facebook page: "The cool thing about the program is that it focuses on healthy habits for the long-term (and I can still indulge in my guilty pleasures every now and then, too). I have actually gotten a group of friends together who are going to be doing it with me."
The 5ft 3in star is hoping to lose her baby weight within the year, according to reports.
A source told Us Weekly: "As soon as Jessica heals from the C-section, she is extremely determined to get back in the gym and work out. She wants to show the world and is excited to do it."

Kristen Stewart not worried about success
Kristen Stewart never thinks about how successful her movies are going to be when she signs up.
The 22-year-old actress - who has starred in one of the best-received movie franchises of all time as Bella Swan in the 'Twilight Saga' - no longer thinks about how her films affect people because she has to decide if she likes them first of all.
She said: "I couldn't imagine doing a project with the idea of how it's going to affect people. It really has to affect you first, and if it does, then maybe it will affect other people ... I think that people who don't have that are clearly choosing things to become famous actresses."
"They're clearly choosing things to make money. I mean, I love Los Angeles - I love living here. But I wish that we could make things without the need to hit a home run every single time."
Kristen - who is dating her 'Twilight Saga' co-star Robert Pattinson - admits she feels very grateful to have experience so much success in her shirt career and she realises she is privileged to have worked with so many talented actors.
Kristen - who stars in new movie 'Snow White and the Huntsman' with Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth - said: "I feel so extremely successful - and not just because I can greenlight a movie now. It's because I've really only worked with people that I truly love."
However, she admits she has not always had good experiences on-set.
She told Interview Magazine: "I've only had bad experiences with one or two directors. I think it always boils down to people not being there for the right reasons, and not being there for the same reasons. It's a miracle when things come together. But sometimes it just doesn't happen - and when it doesn't happen, you still have to finish the movie." Source: ChinaDaily
Search under way for porn actor suspected of mailing body parts
The search continued Thursday for a porn actor suspected of dismembering his acquaintance, posting the video of the incident online and mailing the severed limbs to different locations in Ottawa, including to a political party's headquarters, according to a source with direct knowledge of the investigation.
Authorities are searching for Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, who they say is allegedly responsible for a human torso discovered in Montreal and thought to be linked to a human hand and foot that were separately mailed from Montreal to Ottawa.
Magnotta, also known as Eric Clinton Newman, is a Montreal resident who allegedly knew the victim, identified only as a white male, Montreal police spokesman Ian Lafreniere told reporters on Wednesday.
The suspect has no criminal background, and his image and information related to him were later recovered from a "very graphic" website, Lafreniere said.
The source later confirmed that at least one of the websites examined by authorities was a pornographic site.
It's possible the body parts all came from the same dismembered victim, Lafreniere said, but police are still awaiting the results of forensic testing for confirmation.
"The two parts of the body that were found in Ottawa... we've got all the reasons to believe that it's linked to our homicide," he added, referring to the human torso found in Montreal.
Authorities said they are asking the public for help in locating Magnotta, after a "coast-to-coast" warrant was issued for his arrest. Police say they plan to charge him with murder once he's apprehended.
Lafreniere said authorities have also found other body parts, potentially from the same attack, which is believed to have been committed in Montreal. It would be the 11th homicide there this year.
"It wasn't a random attack," Lafreniere noted. "They knew each other."
Lafreniere added that Magnotta had been "involved in some stuff on the web, that's for sure," though he would not elaborate.
The human foot was sent to the Conservative Party of Canada headquarters in Ottawa, prompting a hazardous materials team to investigate. The officers who responded noticed what appeared to be bloodstains on the box, police said.
Ottawa police Sgt. Steve Hodgson told reporters outside the office that the package had been addressed to the Conservative Party. Staffers had begun to open the package before calling police, he said.
The hand was intercepted by workers at a Montreal postal terminal.
Ottawa's major-crimes unit is checking with other police departments for similar cases and looking back through missing-persons files for any clues, according to Constable Marc Soucy, an Ottawa police spokesman.
"We're going to look at every avenue," he said.
In Montreal, the human torso was found behind an apartment building, authorities said. Source: CNN
